The Jefferson Awards honors ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others. Initiated in 1972 to create a "Nobel Prize" for public service, awards are presented both nationally and locally. Each spring, awards programs are held in hundreds of American cities and one local winner is chosen to go on to the national Jefferson Awards at the U.S. Supreme Court in June. This unique effort recognizes the highest ideals and achievements of volunteerism in the United States and serves as a call to action for others to get involved.
Start your day with past winners and fellow community members as we celebrate our five Washington State winners. Hear a call to action from Washington's Secretary of State Sam Reed and be there for the first public announcement of which winner will be our National Nominee!
While five Washington State winners have been chosen, only you can help us pick our National Nominee! The 2010 Washington State Jefferson Awards winners will be featured on KING 5's Evening Magazine during the week of April 5-9, 2010. One winner will be featured each evening. Be sure to tune in or stream online at KING5.com and vote for who you think should represent our state at the National Jefferson Awards. Online voting will be open from April 5-12, 2010 at KING5.com.
Register today to join us for this special event. You are sure to be inspired by the people you meet and the stories of this year's winners!
